Continued Recognition for Amalia Mesa-Bains: Archaeology of Memory
February 29, 2024
The beautiful exhibition catalog for Amalia Mesa-Bains: Archaeology of Memory, which Laura Perez co-curated with María Esther Fernández, was recognized with an honorable mention for the 2024 ALAA-Thoma Foundation Exhibition Catalogue Award competition.
The exhibition was also singled out as one of the defining exhibitions of 2023 in the world by Art News in December.
Having opened at the BAMPFA in January of 2023, the exhibition just closed at the Phoenix Art Museum, and opens May 2nd at Museo del Barrio in New York City. The exhibition will continue its run at the San Antonio Museum of Art, and end at The Cheech Center for Art & Culture, Riverside Museum, in 2025.
The exhibition is having a major impact in the Latinx art world of course, but also in the mainstream art world where the work of US Latinx and other US women of color artists are finally being exhibited and being collected.
