AAADS, the LRC, and BUS in the California State Budget!

Great news out of Sacramento! The 2022-23 California State Budget includes several items sure to have a positive impact on the work we do in Ethnic Studies. Closest to home, the Budget includes $15 million for Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies (AAADS) to increase faculty and enhance campus community engagement. Moreover, the Latinx Research Center (LRC) will receive an additional $3 million to continue growing its important work. Finally, Berkeley Underground Scholars (BUS)–a program with historic ties to our Department that supports incarcerated, formerly incarcerated and system-impacted students–will receive $4 million to expand and deepen its reach across the UC system. Truly transformative!
It’s most gratifying to know there is strong and effective support in the California legislature for the work we do. Congratulations to all who contributed to bringing these vital resources to our campus!
