Professor Raymond Telles Receives 2019 Social Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award

Raymond Telles, Associate Adjunct Professor of Ethnic Studies, has received the 2019 Social Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award. Ray teaches courses in the Chicana/o/Latina/o Studies Program and the Comparative Ethnic Studies Program such as CS 135A (Latino Narrative Film to the 1980s); CS 135B, (Latino Narrative Film since the 1980s); ETH STD 122AC (Ethnicity and Race in Contemporary American Films), and ETH STD 180 (Selected Topics: Documentary Film Production). Ray is also an accomplished filmmaker. Among his recent accomplishments has been the nomination of the PBS documentary “Dogtown Revisited,” which he co-produced, for a 2017 News and Documentary Emmy Award, and the national broadcast of “Pedro E. Guerrero: A Photographer’s Journey” on the American Masters series (PBS). Ray directed and produced this documentary featuring the life of Mexican American Guerrero and his distinguished international photography career. Ray will receive his award at the Annual Social Sciences/Matrix Fest on April 18.
